INTRODUCTION to Whitaker-Huntingdon Inn and its desirable location at 601 Whitaker Street:

The Whitaker-Huntingdon Inn is a two-unit (four-bedroom) 1883 Italianate bed & breakfast in Savannah's Historic District, hosted/owned for 16 years by Bill and Debbie Saxman.  Forsyth Park is located across Whitaker Street from the Inn.  This 32-acre, landscaped, public space includes a new outdoor entertainment stage with modern water feature and popular cafe; plus, its large historic 1858 cast-iron water fountain, century-old monuments, fragrant garden, mile-long walkway/jogging trail (finish line for November 5, 2011, Rock ‘n’ Roll half & full Marathons), children’s playground, and beautiful 100-plus-year-old, moss-laden Live Oak trees.

Antiques, period accessories, and original architectural details allow guests to experience the comfortable living quarters five families of this home have enjoyed since 1883.  Complimentary conveniences expected by today's guests are provided: Wi-Fi, bottled water, hair dryer(s), iron, Direct TV/DVD, CD players, telephone, and fresh flowers.  A deluxe continental breakfast, with special diet items available, is provided in each unit's full-service kitchen the evening before.  This allows guests to set their own breakfast schedule.  Previously recorded guestbook comments, plus hosts’ recommendations are gladly offered to supplement local brochures and maps provided in the suites.

In addition to our very comfortable and well-appointed suites, our private garden/patio areas, goldfish ponds, parlor, and glass-enclosed sun porch are also available for guests’ enjoyment.  Shopping and all other attractions in the Historic District are within walking distance.  If desired, a free downtown trolley route is within a block of the Inn, which allows guests to ride to or from their destinations every 20 minutes between 7 AM and 7 PM, with a 40-minute schedule on Sundays.  Garaged parking and free on-street parking are available at the Inn.

GUEST ROOMS:

Each suite has its private entrance into the Inn and is situated in opposite sections of the Inn.  These suites are also large and separated, and far enough apart to allow us to welcome children traveling with parents and still safe guard a quality and private stay for other guests.  

Gordon-Stewart Suite, a two-bedroom, one-bathroom unit, with antique lion-claw soaker tub/shower, has two queen-size beds, two TVs, and a full-service kitchen; plus a great view of Forsyth Park from its vantage point on the second floor.

Taylor-Dunn Suite, a first-floor, two-bedroom, two-bathroom garden cottage, has two queen-size beds, an adjoining TV/sitting room (with a quality queen-size, sleeper sofa), plus a large full-service kitchen.  An adjacent private courtyard/garden with goldfish pond allows guests an opportunity to sit outdoors, to smoke, to enjoy a good book, to converse, or to rest after a full day’s activity.
